Un mal día
Desde hace varias jornadas se esperaba un fatal desenlace. Ayer mismo estuve tentado, cuando confeccioné el post, de hablar del “estado crítico” en el que se encontraba Fray José. Me alegro de no haberlo hecho.
Me llamó muy temprano una persona muy próxima a él para darme la mala noticia. Me levanté para colgarla en el blog y a partir de ese momento una gran parte de la jornada tuvo que ver, directa o indirectamente, con la desaparición de una extraordinaria persona y de un gran amigo.

Cena en El Mesón de Alberto contánto chistes hasta bien entrada la madrugada con Manolo Granxeiro, Ulises Romero, Alfredo Mosteirin.
Otra noche en la radio escuchando grabaciones de bromas y cruces de llamadas.
Aquella copa de Navidad que todos los años venía a darnos a los trabajadores de la COPE. Aprovechaba para entrevistarlo y saber como celebraba las fiestas y siempre intentaba que interpretase algún villancico. Tenía fama de excelente cantante.
En momentos personalmente difíciles para mí y mi familia no me faltó su apoyo y su consuelo.
Y no puedo olvidar una tapa profesional en la que tuve que enfrentarme a un mandamás de la COPE. Se puso claramente de mi parte y sé que se sintió muy contrariado cuando dejé la dirección de la Emisora.
Siendo persona de enorme influencia y autoridad en la cadena, jamás se inmiscuyó en el trabajo de los profesionales, ni ejerció ningún tipo de presión. Recuerdo un hecho concreto que ratifica esto: en una tertulia que yo moderaba, Anselmo Sanpedro, habitual de la misma y secretario de Comisiones Obreras criticó con excesiva dureza al Obispo de Lugo. No hubo la mínima reacción ni reproche por parte de Fray José.
Acompaño a gente importante de la curia lucense en una visita al presidente de la Diputación. Gómez Besteiro estuvo encantador como es habitual y dispuesto a colaborar en una serie de proyectos que no debo comentar, pero que redundarán en bien de la comunidad.
Estuve unos minutos en la sede del obispado(en la puerta principal, a la izquierda, alguien había depositado dos rosas amarillas) y me impresiona que la tristeza de todos no afecte la marcha de la casa, que sigue funcionando como un reloj.
Mientras estoy allí llegaron varios telegramas. Yo creía que eran cosas del pasado. Se lo comento a la funcionaria de Correos que los traía. Me sorprende la respuesta: “seguimos recibiendo y repartiendo muchos cada día; apenas se han reducido a pesar de las nuevas tecnologías; los bancos, por ejemplo, los utilizan habitualmente”.
Me fijo en los árboles situados ante la fachada de la Diputación. Han crecido tanto que casi la tapan. Y me da que no ofrecen demasiada seguridad. Uno ya lo ha tirado el viento. No estaría mal que se talaran los que quedan.
